2018 was a very rewarding ministry launch for The Intentional Way with Coach K. We wanted to highlight some of our favorite “God Stories” from this past year in this edition. We are also featuring “The God Ask” as we seek additional ministry investors that will allow us to reach more men & families in 2019, and beyond. Pray for these End-of-Year donations to meet our projected financial needs. We are extremely grateful for your personal friendship and ministry partnership. May we all experience the Spirit of Christmas Giving exemplified by the Magi during this Season of Celebrating The Savior’s Birth!
“You Deserve This…”
Candie and I traveled to Tennessee after the holidays last year to prayerfully consider God‘s will. Two memorable statements from my devoted wife became very instrumental in our decision-making process: 1) “I signed up for this faith journey 38 years ago when we were married…why should anything change now?” 2) “Launching our own ministry is definitely the right next step…you deserve this!”
Vermont = State #41
We had previously traveled to 40 States for Ministry 2 Men during the last 5 years. Brian Doyle of ISI invited us to be a Keynote Speaker in Burlington, VT. We spoke on “Rekindling The Flame” (Leviticus 6:8-13) and “Who’s In Your Foxhole? (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12). Sharing the platform with Kevin DeVries of Grace Explorations was an added bonus, especially our 1-1 time.
We were honored to receive another invitation from Clark Osborn of Real Momentum Ministries to speak at their ISI Conference in Nebraska. We had previously shared the platform in 2014 alongside Gene Getz. Clark has been a valued personal friend and key ministry ally for many years.
Connecticut = State #42
The “Super Bowl” of ISI Conferences is held in Hartford every March. It was a tremendous honor to to speak at this large gathering. I experienced a memorable fellowship meal with Joe Martin (Real Men Connect) and Bert Bernier (Team MIM) pre-conference and was blessed by a tremendous God Story from Brian Doyle at the conference.
Who’s In Your Foxhole?
Our most requested topic for 2018 has been a strategic message based on Ecclesiastes 4:9-12. Listen to one of our presentations by clicking on this link from the Coach K You Tube Channel.
Helping Men Win
Keith Boggs of Real Momentum Ministries in Atlanta has been a tremendous blessing to us. He has a large group of men that meet regularly on Wednesday nights for guest speakers and table time discussions. We enjoy our annual visit with the RMM guys!
National Day of Prayer
We facillitated a time of prayer with several men’s discipleship leaders who assembled at the top of Kennesaw Mountain, GA. It’s always an encouraging time to join with others on the First Thursday in May for intercessory purposes.
Father’s Day Focus
Too many churches “forfeit” Father’s Day instead of intentionally focusing on effectively reaching men in their congregation and community. Pastor Carl Goodman of Salem, VA invited us to speak for an entire weekend of memorable meetings with his men and congregation.
It was a joy to tour the U. S. S. North Carolina in Wilmington, NC. This historic WW2 battleship became a key illustration for our Men’s Rally on “Battle Stations” co-hosted by Pastor Robert Keatts and Mike Sandlin of Cape Fear Men.
It was an honor to reconnect with Pastor James Murdock in Kokomo, IN and conduct a Men’s Rally at his church plant. He has launched “Hope Church” in a previously occupied GBC facility.
What a blessing to travel to Marietta, GA to lead Eastminster Presbyterian (ECO) through their 1st Men’s Summit. Like others, they adopted our idea of of hosting an on-campus gathering of men versus an off-campus retreat that typically attracts fewer attendees.
Fish Fry in Lexington
Lexington, NC is nationally known for tasty BBQ! Pastor Gary Gibson offered a different menu item for the men of his congregation and area churches. We had a fine meal and a great time together as we challenged men in the B4MS.
Steak Dinner in Alabama
The Old School Men’s Meeting, led by Mark Perry & Chris Jackson, provides a free steak dinner on the 3rd Thursday of every month. What a joy to speak to the 200+ men who gathered. OSMM is one of the most unique community outreaches I have ever witnessed!
We were very intentional with our efforts in “Building Bridges over Troubled Waters” in 2018. Pastor Herb Rhedrick in Concord, NC hosted Darryl King, A. J. Fobbs and myself on two occasions as we addressed some of the cultural issues we are currently dealing with across America.
Brats & Burgers in WI
Paul Neevel invited us to speak to the Men of East Central Wisconsin. We experienced a great move of God in the lives of the nearly 200 guys who attended on a Monday night for “Brats & Burgers,” followed by a semi-annual Men’s Rally.
Coaching & Pastoring
Paul Thompson currently pastors in Dothan, AL. It was very rewarding to speak to the men of his congregation and invest some time with his family. Paul played basketball in our athletic program in the mid-1980’s in Charlotte, NC. He is one of a number of former athletes who now serve in pastoral ministry. It is always encouraging to reconnect in their places of service and reminisce on God‘s work during their formative years as young men.
My “Calling Card” across America is to have men “huddle up” for a time of prayer to encourage each other to march on in the Battle 4 Men’s Souls. Pictured here are a few of the numerous Prayer Huddles we conducted in the 18 States we visited in 2018 seeking God for Men “Devoted to Prayer,” based on Colossians 4:2-4.
